One of the best things about studying in Edinburgh is the wealth of other libraries you can use.
If you want to visit another academic library we would always advise you to speak to the staff in one of our campus libraries first. You may need to join the SCONUL Access scheme, or you may need a signed letter to gain access, and you must be in good standing with the Edinburgh Napier library service.
Most academic libraries will only allow reading access for undergraduates, unless you pay their external user fees. Staff, postgraduates and part-time students may be able to borrow some materials from some libraries. Please respect the rules and regulations of the libraries you visit, they may not be the same as ours.
Some of the most useful ones for Arts & Creative Industries subjects are listed below:
You can use libraries in other cities also, if that happens to be convenient for you. See our webpage on Other libraries and bookshops.
Library Hub Discover is an excellent tool for searching for books in all the major university and research libraries in the UK. This is an amalgamation of the former COPAC and SUNCAT services.
If you can't find the thing you want in any local library, there still may be hope. We may be able to request it via Interlibrary Loan for you - fill in the details of your request in our online form. Please be aware that interlibrary loans can take a while to arrive, especially if you are requesting a complete physical book.
