Gen AI features on Mendeley

Mendeley has introduced new features Reading Assistant and Compare Experiments using generative AI (GenAI).
See more information on Generative AI on Mendeley.

Note that both the Reading Assistant and Compare Experiments are currently in alpha release, which means it’s in an early stage of development and may be switched off in the future. Be aware that AI content can be incorrect, biased or offensive. Be aware that your data can be used for training, so do not enter personal/private information.  Ensure that you are following University Guidance in your use of AI - See Artificial intelligence tools and your learning

Reading Assistant

  • When you click on the title of an article in your Library, you will see the Reading Assistant button on the right hand side.

  • If you click on it, you will open an AI chat based on the article. It will allow you to make a summary of the PDF, or ask questions about it in the chat. It will answer questions input in another language, but will reply in English.

For academic work, we recommend reading the article for yourself.
AI can be incorrect or biased. If you are looking for a quick overview, articles often have an abstract and conclusion written by the author which will give you the information from a more trustworthy source.

Compare Experiments

  • Tick the check box next to up to ten items in your Library (which have a file available with a green tick) and then choose the "Compare Experiments" button.
