Reading Lists

For tips, tricks, and tutorial information related to Reading Lists at Edinburgh Napier University.

What to do if the library does not have your item

Books

If you would like to add a book to your reading list which the library does not have, please email your Subject Librarian to discuss this directly, or add the book (including information about title, author, ISBN, edition etc.) to the reading list and once the reading list has been sent to the library the library staff will look into purchasing the book for the collection and contact you to let you know the outcome.

Book chapters or journal articles

If you would like to request either a journal article not currently held by ENU or a chapter of a print book to be digitised in order to make them available to students on a Reading List and/or Moodle page, please see further information and the request form on the Digital Extracts Service page on the staff intranet pages. Library staff will check with the CLA to see if the item can be digitised and let you know the outcome.

Under the CLA licence, the general rule is we can copy up to either whichever is the greater of the following:

One whole chapter from a book, or one whole article from a magazine/journal issue

OR

10% of the total publication.

See Add a digitised extract for instructions how to add the extract to your reading list.

Articles shared on academic networking sites

The library does not support linking to articles shared on academic networking sites like ResearchGate and Academia.edu as they may not always comply with copyright laws.
If a paper infringes copyright, it could be taken down, making it unavailable. To avoid potential copyright issues, it’s best to source reading materials from the University Library’s eResources, open access databases, or request a digitised article via the Digital Extracts Service page on the staff intranet pages (see the information above).
