This accessibility statement applies to content published on our subject guides (LibGuides by Springshare) at Library Guides. The content has been created using the LibGuides platform which is provided by Springshare. See Springshare Accessibility Statement.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

A number of our teaching spaces, libraries and some other public areas have audio induction loops, or if you contact us before your visit we can arrange a BSL interpreter.

We produce our content to be compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, using the LibGuides by SpringShare platform which is designed to meet the same standard.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Some buttons are lacking screen readable text to alert the user that they will open in a new email in a new tab. (WCAG: 3.2)
Some headings (including table headings) have been formatted or sequenced in a way which could present issues for some users. Properly ordered headings that do not skip levels convey the semantic structure of the page, making it easier to navigate and understand when using assistive technologies. (WCAG: 1.3.1)
Some form elements and instances of embedded content are not labelled in a way which makes their purpose clear to all users. E.g. Search button does not include screen-readable instructions about clicking search or enter to run the search. (WCAG: 4.1.2)
Some abbreviations do not have a mechanism for identifying the expanded form or meaning, or mark-up for screen readers. (WCAG 3.1.4)
We are working to resolve all issues, together with Springshare.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared in April 2023.
This website was last tested in April 2023. The test was carried out by Edinburgh Napier University Library staff, evaluating a selection of pages from the most used LibGuides both manually and using the Tota11y browser plug-in. The non-accessible content section highlights any content that is not compliant with WCAG 2.1.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We have developed accessibility guidelines and training for all staff producing content on our LibGuides. We have changed our site navigation and standardised our colour scheme (with colours checked using WebAIM) to improve accessibility. We have an ongoing programme of work to check and update LibGuides to address any accessibility issues.
