Write & Publish

Open Access

At Edinburgh Napier University, postgraduate researchers and staff members are required to deposit all forms of research output into the Edinburgh Napier Research Repository, subject to any publishers’ restrictions. In doing so, this ensures your work meets the REF open access requirements so will be eligible to be submitted to the next REF. As well as being advantageous for the University, Open Access has wider benefits for you as a researcher, and for the wider academic community.

The University prefers Green Open Access. To learn more about Open Access at Edinburgh Napier University visit the Open Access Blog.

It’s very simple, really!

Think carefully before submitting your work to scholarly publications, and support publications that advocate for Green Open Access.

Once your research has been accepted for publication, be sure to deposit a copy in Repository@Napier as soon as possible.

Don’t forget, at any time you can email your subject librarian or contact repository@napier.ac.uk for help or more information.

If your preferred journal does not support Green Open Access, consider using an Author Addendum like this one from SPARC or see OpenAIRE’s Open Science Primers for more information. You can contact the Contracts Officer within Research Innovation and Enterprise for assistance in drafting your own Author Addendum.

Open Access is the idea that knowledge becomes more valuable and useful when it is openly-shared and built-upon.
