Literature Searching & Reviewing

What is a literature search?

A literature search is a key step of writing a literature review. During the search process, you will find and select the literature (e.g. journal articles) that you will critically review.

Some literature searches, for example, those taken as part of a Systematic Review, will be methodical and seek to find all of the key literature on a topic. Other literature reviews will be less structured and will aim to find some of the key literature on a topic. Whatever approach you take, you will need to plan your literature search and consider what search terms to use, where you will perform your search, and what your search parameters are.
