Write & Publish

Research Cycle - Write & PublishSharing ideas is at the heart of scholarship. After all, when you have spent so much time gathering and analysing your data you will want your findings to reach as large an audience as possible.

However, the road to publication is not an easy one. Here you will find important information and useful guidance on choosing the right journal to publish in, protecting your intellectual property, all things Open Access, as well as an introduction to our institutional repository.

Open Access Policy

From August 2025, Edinburgh Napier University has implemented a new Research Publications and Open Access Policy.

The policy introduces a ‘rights retention’ approach, aligning with sector-wide efforts across the UK to enhance open access to research. This means that authors will retain copyright to their work, while granting the University a non-exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide licence to make manuscripts publicly available under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence. This will be done through the repository. Authors can continue to add their new publications to Worktribe as usual, and the Library's repository team will make sure the right licence is applied to the right file.

For further details, see Research Publications and Open Access Policy or Frequently Asked Questions.
If you require any further information, please contact the repository team at repository@napier.ac.uk.
